Internet and Social Media penetration in Nepal

Information technology (IT) has developed rapidly with the global use of internet, Till mid august 2012, the country's internet penetration rate was 19.32 per cent up from 11.16 per cent in mid august 2011 according to Nepal Telecommunications Authority. More than 19 per cent Nepalis using internet is a good sign for Nepal, although it is less in comparison to other countries. Social networking sites are the major stakeholders in internet now a days.The statisticbrain.com's research in December 2012 shows that 56 per cent people use social networking sites, people of Isreal being the most engaged by spending 11.1 hours on an average per month. Blog, Wikipedia and YouTube all social media are storage house of knowledge. NTA statistics show 4.78 million mobile users on Nepal Telecom (NT) and Ncell have subscribed to GPRS services.
